Vegans raise fund for Manufacturing Vegan Bikes

Animal agriculture is used in various industries. Vegans too are trying to explore options in each and every domain to make the planet meat free. Recently, two Vegans Rob Rast and Pete Leaviss have ventured into making bicycles that are hundred percent vegan and people are supporting them in huge numbers.

These two vegans have set out on an extraordinary journey to make the planet more sustainable. They co-own a startup FLX Bike and want to encourage people to use bicycles as a safer mode of transport with a minimum carbon footprint. The company was set up in 2017 after Rast and Leaviss met in Beijing which is considered one of the most polluted cities of the world.

The seats of the bicycle are also not using leather. They are made of vegan materials like Vinyl. FLX bikes are coming up with a new model of their bike called ‘The Babymaker’.

For ‘The Babymaker’, the company went for crowdfunding and they raised their target amount in 24 hours. They had aimed at $20,000 and ended up raising $1.3 million. The company has already received 1000 pre-orders for this bike.

Rast feels that every Babymaker shipped is a step towards making our planet less grey and a little more green. This new model will be available from September 2020. There will be two variants- Standard and Pro.

There has been a while since Rast turned Vegan. However, Leaviss took this call only a few months back after watching the popular documentary film ‘The game changers’. He changed to Veganism to check if he too could increase his potential like the athletes shown in the film.
